Actual 5-6 blod entry. the other one is 7-8 even though it says 5-6

maudie atkinson is a good person. she is kind to both jem and scout. i think that scout is closer to her than jem is. she uses her kind of like a therapist that she can talk to and tell her feelings to. she also never tells on scout. it appears to me that miss maudie is kind of like a mother to scout.

Chapter 5 and 6

I think that many objects in these chapters are symbols. For example, the tree symbolizes Boo Radley. The tree is dying and fading away and that's the impression we have of Boo, locked up in the house with no one to talk to except for Arthur. The broken clock seems to be a symbol of the time that Boo Radley has left, which isn't much. On the other hand, it might just be a broken clock that he is using to bribe the children to be his friend. Not all things are symbols. Even though some people think the ball of yarn symbolizes time, I think it's just a ball of yarn. If you think about any random item, you can develop a theory that it's a symbol, but it might just be a way to make the story more detailed. For example, the soap figures will wash away and the Doublemint gum will lose its flavor, but they can't all be symbols of time.
